vssc092N - Another big trip

South Sea Cargo’s barge departed on Wednesday, 13th September with a massive schedule to complete.

The journey began in Malekula as the crew arrived and started offloading the various cargo. On board were several ISO tanks that had been previously transferred to Port Vila to be tested and cleaned, and are now returned full with fuel to serve the people on the island. Among other exciting cargo that was to be repositioned from Malekula to Santo was more pro machinery for the MAP project team for the work they’ve been doing on the islands. The heavy machinery was loaded onto the barge after all the containers were delivered.

Among the containers to be delivered to Malekula were 4 LCL containers, which is great to see the people of Vanuatu using South Sea Cargo to send smaller cargo items to the islands.

Next up was Santo, where a number of water tanks, FCL and LCL containers were delivered. The South Sea Cargo trucks managed to transport the heavy machinery also!

Among the heavy machinery was an excavator which was delivered to the Forestry corner in Santo. The trip to Nainjo Point was for the South Santo road project equipment delivery for the Chinese who needed an excavator and a crusher delivered to their location. This was a first for Carsinos to birth at Nainjo Point, and South Sea Cargo are pleased to assist with the initial mobilization of this equipment to assist with the South Santo road project. The location is a bit isolated but the team noted it is great to see more development into the rural areas of the outer islands.

By Tuesday the team had wrapped up operations on Santo and loaded up the trucks ready to depart.

Returning to Litslits, Malekula was next on the agenda. When the barge docked, Vanuatu Ferry were also in operation but the crew noted that many customers were coming to load their LCL cargo with South Sea Cargo which is great to see many happy customers returning.

Before leaving Malekula the crew had a successful day. They had to load several more containers, empty ISO tanks and some small vehicles. The team even had to change a tire on one of the big trucks as it encountered a puncture in the afternoon!

The crew spent the night and finalized the loading the next morning and packed everything away securely. From the vehicles, ISO tanks, containers and tons of ‘aelan kakai’ (island food).

South Sea Cargo arrived safely back to Port Vila on Friday 22nd after a long 10 day trip. A massive effort!
